SOAR

Given the expansion of capabilities with Site Themes, you will find a new menu item under Administration called Site Theme. This is where you will access all Site Theme administration vs. where it was previously found in the Control Panel section.

The first section (Theme Selection) contains a single button, Select Theme, which can be used to browse the available themes, read the detailed description of each theme, and selection of a Site Theme for your website. Changing a Site Theme will not detrimentally affect the content (Announcements, Events, etc..) on your website – only the look and feel of the website. You should feel free to switch to the various themes to test them out.

The second section (Theme Customization) will contain various buttons based on the configuration option of the individual Site Theme. You can modify different components of the Site Theme by clicking on these buttons and changing the settings for font family, font size, bold/normal, background colors, background images, header graphics/pictures, and other choices. You will find these new settings screens much more intuitive than the previous site customization feature. On average you will find 60+ settings per Site Theme. You will also find reset buttons on color and image settings to easily clear the current choices. An often overlooked color setting is ‘none’ which means the section will be transparent and the setting “underneath” will show through.

The third section (Other Settings) contains miscellaneous theme functions.

All of the Site Themes have been completely rewritten. You will find that the new themes have a crisper look and do not have some of the drawbacks of the previous themes. Some of the improvements include

• All themes support background color and image selection.
• The concept of primary/secondary colors is gone. You can now directly change the colors of individual components
• Header images resize to fit in the header – the header will not expand based on the image
• Your content will expand to “contain” images you use inside them. Remember when an image in your Welcome Message would “overflow” below it? No longer !

Site Themes

Original Background

• This new theme is based on the original theme that supported backgrounds.
• This is the default theme for all SOAR services.
• It has a variable width, meaning as you change the size of your browser window it will move content around to fit inside. At some point the content will not fit inside the window and scrollbars will appear to view content “outside” the window.
• It has three columns like the original themes.
• The header has options for graphics on the left and right, with the site title centered in the middle.

Original Flag

• This new theme is based on the original US Flag theme and builds on the Original Background theme.
• US Flag graphic in the header.
• No other image is used in the header and the site title is right justified. This is to support US Flag Code – no image or text should be displayed over the flag.

Three Column Variable

• This is a new Site Theme.
• It is similar to the Original Theme but with a new look and feel.

Three Column Fixed

• This is a new Site Theme.
• It has a fixed width of 900 pixels. It will not resize with the browser window.
• This theme REQUIRES that you create a 900px wide x 120px tall image to use as the header for this theme.
• For that that want a full width customized header – this is for you !

Three Column Fixed SIFR

• Same as Three Column Fixed with SIFR fonts

Two Column Rounded

• This is a new Site Theme.
• This theme only has two columns – menu and content.
• The menu column is on the right, instead of the traditional left hand side menu.
• All of the content has rounded (vs. square) boxes around it.
• An “information bar” is displayed on the Home Page that contains Upcoming Events and Event Registrations.

Two Column Rounded SIFR

• Same as Two Column Rounded with SIFR fonts

Fun Logos

• This is a new Site Theme.
• It is currently only available for Cub Scout Packs.
• It has a Cub Scout specific header with options for including multiple photographs.
• It has Cub Scout specific graphics throughout the theme
• It makes use of SIFR fonts

We have two more themes (Photo & Splash Page) that are not 100% completed yet. The will be released in early October.
