New Feature: Splash Page for Site Themes

The existing Site Themes have a Home Page that displays limited information before members login. It shows the “teasers” for Announcements, dates and names of Upcoming Events, dates and names of Event Registrations, and Public Custom Pages. While you can’t get any other information without logging in, many customers have requested a more private Home Page for guests that hides event that information.

The new Splash Page feature will provide a different Home Page for anonymous users than it does for members that login. The new “Splash Page” for anonymous users includes:

  • A smaller, centered version of the theme’s Home Page
  • Only a two column format to support the smaller size page
  • No announcements, upcoming events, or event registration sections
  • No site counter – it simply didn’t fit in the design.
  • The site menu will only contain Public menu items. All features and private Custom Pages will not be displayed
  • The unit information block has been condensed to show the unit title and number with login links
  • The Welcome Message will display when users first navigate to your website with the Splash Page feature
  • No private information is shown on the Splash Page

The Splash Page feature is available on all Site Themes except the Three Column Fixed themes.

  • Given the smaller design of the Splash Page, it was impossible to shrink the custom header images that you have created for the Three Column Fixed themes and keep them looking good.

When you click on Admin/Site Theme you will notice a new button called Splash Page in the Theme Selection area. Through this button you can turn the Splash Page feature on or off. You will not lose your theme settings by adjusting this feature, so give it a try. Remember that you will need to logout after setting this feature to view its effect !

When using the Splash Page feature you will most likely want to adjust the Page Side Color setting of your theme which controls the color around the Splash Page. This can be found in the Site Defaults section of Theme Customization.
